NetApp introduces AltaVault Cloud Backup

NetApp Inc. has today launched the AltaVault cloud-integrated storage system, promising cheaper backup to Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS).
AltaVault, formerly SteelStore, is now available in the AWS Marketplace as a cloud-based appliance in a variety of configurations.
The company also offers physical and virtual appliances (for Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware ESX) and a cloud-based appliance to the Microsoft Azure cloud.
According to the company, its solutions include inline data compression and data deduplication. This allows users to send less data to the cloud and send the data faster. AltaVault can also be integrated with third-party backup software.
